CNC Software has released an update to Mastercam 2018. Last release offers new 2D/3D Milling features, Design improvements, powerful turning and Mill-Turn enhancements, and so much more.

Mastercam 2018 Update 2 (Version number: 20.0.19466.0):

This update is intended to update Mastercam 2018 Update 1 to Mastercam 2018 Update 2.

Issues Addressed
– General: Issues when opening SOLIDWORKS files.
– Classic BackDescription: Incorrect representation of tools, surfaces, toolpaths, and vectors.
– Mill: Issue with Thread Mill file’s Thread depth setting.

This update is intended to update Mastercam 2018 for SOLIDWORKS Update 1 to Mastercam 2018 for SOLIDWORKS Update 2.

– Milling Advances
Stock awareness has been added to select 2D toolpaths and allows tool motion on the top, bottom, or both values of the stock. This provides a safer and more optimized tool motion. You can also optimize finish passes based on your rough stock, giving you more efficient and safer tool motion. The workflow for all 3D High Speed toolpaths has been streamlined and gives you fine control over exactly where to cut. High speed Hybrid toolpaths now offer smoothing controls and deliver a finer finish, requiring less handwork. – Expanded Turning and Mill-Turn
If you work with stringy materials such as aluminum or plastic, Mastercam’s new Chip Break control prevents problems by allowing you to set length and time conditions, retract, and dwell options. Mill-Turn machine definitions now contain tailstock and quill components, tailored to your machine.
Exclusive to Mastercam, a new set of turning strategies automate toolpath generation and support for Sandvik Coromant CoroTurn Prime inserts and PrimeTurning method. PrimeTurning provides superior metal removal rate, productivity gains of over 50%, and increased tool life in a variety of materials.
– New CAD Tools for the Shop Floor
Shops can model their own designs, but they also get in models that need to be corrected or prepped for machining. Mastercam’s CAD functions are designed for the machinist. Angle Sweep improves the creation of more complex wireframe functions and when creating or editing primitives, there are now on-screen sweep and rotate controls which can snap to the AutoCursor positions of existing entities. To make Roll and Unroll results easier to predict, Seam Control lets you visually rotate a seam to see how geometry will respond, as well as snap to AutoCursor positions. Hole Axis makes it easier to work with a large number of holes, especially holes with matching diameters that are selected as a group.

About Mastercam 2018 for SolidWorks Mastercam 2018 for SOLIDWORKS is a CAM application that is fully integrated into SOLIDWORKS. Users can program parts directly in SOLIDWORKS using Mastercam’s industry-leading toolpaths and machining strategies. Then here’s a quick list of some highlights:
– High speed workflow
The workflow for all 3D High Speed toolpaths has been streamlined. You can now define which part geometry to machine and which geometry to avoid. For each geometry group you create, you can also assign variable stock to leave values on its walls and floors.
– Linking associativity
You can use associative points to program your linking moves for most 2D toolpaths. These new features are located on the Linking Parameters page.
– Automatic Toolpathing (ATP)
Automatic Toolpathing (ATP) is now available for Mastercam 2018 for SOLIDWORKS. ATP automates the process of assigning toolpaths to geometry for recurrent parts using a machining strategy. A machining strategy contains one or more level names that are associated or mapped to Mastercam operations. The familiar process that is used in Mastercam is repeated in Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS. Create your operations library, read your part files, create your strategy, pick your cutlist, and then begin creating your toolpaths. Access ATP through the Toolpath Utilities menu.
– Mastercam for Solidworks Router
Now the functionality of Mastercam Router, previously available only in the Standalone version of Mastercam, is available to be licensed in Mastercam for Solidworks, giving you access to new toolpaths and design features.
– Saw toolpaths
Saw toolpaths are used to drive a saw blade cutting along a straight line. You can program multiple saw cuts using a single tool plane (for example, TOP) in a single operation. Typically, the axis of rotation of the saw blade is parallel to the sheet. Use the Machine Definition Manager to define a right angle aggregate for the machine definition used with this toolpath. When selecting chains for a Saw toolpath, you indicate a kerf direction (cut side). Saw is located under the 2D Toolpaths menu when a Router machine is active.
– Block Drill toolpaths
Use Block Drill toolpaths to take advantage of the capabilities of a drill block or gang tooling. During a Block Drill operation, Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS selectively drops different drills depending on the holes that need to be drilled. Block Drill is located under the Point/Circle Toolpaths menu when a Router machine is active.
