Engineering Center Steyr (ECS), a company belonging to the Magna Steyr group, is pleased to announce the availability of KULI software version 16.1 is a software the main goal isenergy management optimization. It can simulate vehicle cooling systems andallows to calculate components temperature, heat losses, power losses, etc.

Improvements
KULI base
– Fix – CCFC: Opening of component file caused a crash in case of using a media in the specification, which was not available in the media path. This is fixed now.
– Fix – Error check: When the simulation of a cooling system was started and the cooling system contained changes that had not been saved previously, the Error check had been performed twice instead of once. This is fixed now.
KULI advanced
– Fix – Resistance Matrix: When creating a resistance matrix some unit inconsistencies during initialization could result in slightly incorrect correction factors. This is fixed since KULI 16.
KULI hvac
– Fix – Expansion device: Pressing the calculation button in the calculation table of an empty expansion device component window lead to a KULI crash. This is fixed now.
– Fix – ACPHE: If in a transient calculation an ACPHE component is within a locked branch which is unlocked at a later timestep, the mass flow of the component remains zero, leading to a wrong system behaviour. This is fixed now.
– Fix – AC simulation: In KULI 16 canceling an A/C simulation was possible at the end of a timestep or operating point only. Now the calculation can be canceled during the calculation as well.
Magna’s KULI softwarehas long been used to simulate and optimize the thermal management system for automotive applications.
For thermal management systems safety means that all vehicle components (combustion engine, e-drive, battery…) can operate within their designated temperature ranges for all relevant vehicle operating points, driving cycles and ambient conditions. Efficiency means that this task is achieved with minimized energy effort. Adding passenger comfort as an important factor and also focusing on system cost minimization step by step reveals the complexity of modern cooling- and HVAC-system design.
This is a task, which can only be handled by comprehensive system level simulation… and KULI is a software tool which has been developed to do exactly that.
