After the abolition of slavery in the Caribbean islands, Indian forced laborers arrived, bringing with them another culture to the melting pot of the West Indies. The main element that they brought with them was their musical identity. East Indian wage earners mainly come from the Hindustan belt to grow sugar plantations mainly in Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and Guyana.
This sample library includes two major musical sub-genres that appeared in the history of Creole musical innovation in the West Indies, both of which are the result of the presence of East Indian immigrants in the Caribbean.
Chutney music originated from Bhojpuri folk music. The main instruments are harmonium, dhanthal and dholak. This traditional chutney sound is the traditional form of the original and organic expression of the Indian diaspora in the Caribbean. Chutney melodies and rhythms have evolved over the years to adapt to changes in technique and taste, while at the same time moving forward with new traditions in the carnival industry, giving rise to the chatney-juice cross-genre. Nevertheless, Chutney still retains the fierce rhythms of dholak in combination with melodic rhythms and the soothing hum of harmonium, as well as traditional melodies and arrangements. In your hands a library of samples and loops of authentic dholak, dhanthal and harmonium. Vocal samples are also included to help bring the atmosphere to your pieces.
Tassa drums appeared in North and Central India. The main instruments used are dhol or bass drum, the Caribbean equivalent of nagara, known as a kutter drum, and a jhanj plate. The fascinating rhythm of Tassa has become synonymous with the triumph on the twin island. The basis of all traditional Indian weddings and celebrations, Tassa can now be easily adapted to any audio production.
