ESI ProCASTprovides a complete solution for continuous and semi-continuous casting process, including Direct Chill (DC) casting simulation. The software can simulate steady-state conditions as well as the initial and final stages of continuous casting processes. The solution offers an extensive suite of modules and tools enabling foundries to meet the most challenging industrial requirements. ProCAST is well adapted to predict distortions and residual stresses after casting and addresses specific processes including core blowing, centrifugal, lost foam, semi-solid and continuous casting.
ProCAST solversare linked with the ESI’s Optimization solvers in order to run an automated trial and error approach. The computer performs the best chosen trials and makes decisions to improve process conditions and/or materials properties. This is all based on user-defined goals. Visual-Environment provides a set of guided work flows so that users can set-up these computer trials with ease. Several types of calculations can be set to drive the manufacturing decisions, such as Design of Experiment, Optimization, Process Robustness and Inverse Modeling.
FAR uses ESI ProCAST to determine the best DCM for an automotive oil pump produced in a 2 cavity die
FAR was producing successfully an automotive oil pump on a single cavity die using a Colosio 560 tons DCM. It was required to increase the production, and hence the primary idea was to move into a double cavity die. Emperical calculations suggested to use a 1’200 ton machine. Ecotre, ESI & Colosio came together to increase high fidelity level of ESI ProCAST, by integrating simulation & diecasting machine, to be sure to choose the right sized machine and achieve minimum cost production. This innovation together with a Fondarex vacuum system was virtually tried in ESI ProCAST to achieve a top quality casting. Simulation suggested to opt for a 750 ton machine rather than 1’200 tons as proposed by emperical calculations.

ATTENTION! it’s setup of ProCAST 2022.0 Solvers Win64 only! To use ProCAST 2022.0 Solvers Win64 with GUI you need to install ESI Visual-Environment Win64 software. By default ProCAST 2022.0 needs Visual-Environment 18.0, but you can use Visual-Environment 17.0 or 17.5 too.
